So, what are the manufacturing processes for precision small screws?

When electroplating electronic small screws, they should not be combined with hard materials, which may affect the quality of the screws.

  • First, under the conventional electroplating process conditions, it is difficult to meet the quality requirements of electroplating for different screws in all aspects.
  • Second, the specifications of the hardware screws are too similar. They look almost the same in size and length. The larger ones and the hex bolts should be electroplated separately. Otherwise, it will be difficult to distinguish them after electroplating and it will be hard to sort them out.
  • Thirdly, heavy screws and light screws, small screws and large screws need to be electroplated separately. Otherwise, they might come into contact during the electroplating process, causing damage to the screws.
  • Fourth, screws that are prone to getting stuck together should be separated for electroplating. Otherwise, when screws of different specifications and models are stuck together during electroplating, they will form a clump. This can easily lead to failure in electroplating. Even if they are electroplated successfully, it will be very difficult for us to separate these two types of screws.

Thread cutting:

Generally, it refers to the method of processing threads on workpieces with forming tools or grinding tools, mainly including turning, milling, tapping, threading, grinding, lapping and whirlwind cutting, etc.

When turning, milling or grinding threads, the machine tool’s transmission chain ensures that the turning tool, milling cutter or grinding wheel moves accurately and uniformly along the workpiece’s axial direction by one lead for each revolution of the workpiece.

During tapping or threading, the tool (tap or die) and the workpiece perform relative rotational motion, and the previously formed thread grooves guide the tool (or workpiece) to move axially.

Thread rolling:

A processing method that uses a forming rolling die to cause plastic deformation in the workpiece to obtain threads, also commonly known in the industry as cold heading. The machines used in this production method are generally single die machines, multi-station machines, and die closing machines, etc.

The screws produced by this method have a faster production speed and lower cost. However, compared with the cutting process, the heads and tails of the screws produced by this process are naturally formed, with a relatively round appearance, and are not as angular as those produced by the cutting process. They have a more attractive appearance.

Each method has its own advantages. Although the cutting process is not as fast as cold heading, it is more precise than the cold heading process. However, the cold heading process can produce more and faster products at a lower cost, especially when manufacturing small and precise screws, the cost performance of the cold heading process is even higher than that of the cutting process.
