Copper nuts – Secrets you never knew!

Copper nuts

As the name suggests, a copper nut is a nut made of copper material (usually leaded brass, such as H59, H62). The copper nuts we commonly encounter are mainly hexagonal nuts or other types of copper nuts that match bolts.

So why are copper nuts used in daily production activities?

Because copper nuts have the advantages of being less prone to rust, corrosion-resistant, good thermal and electrical conductivity, etc. They are generally used in environments that require rust prevention, high temperatures, electrical conduction, and heat conduction, such as faucets, valves, electrical switches, etc.

Copper nuts

Another main use of copper nuts is injection molding. After heating, they are embedded into plastic parts or directly injection molded. As mentioned earlier, brass has good thermal conductivity. If a heated copper nut is embedded, on the one hand, the copper nut can quickly heat up, increasing work efficiency.

On the other hand, the heated copper nut can quickly transfer heat to the plastic part, softening the area around the plastic hole and facilitating insertion. So, what would be the effect if injection molding is used? It is well known that the melting points of PA/NYLOY/PET are all above 200°C. After the copper nut is melted into the plastic part, the temperature rises rapidly. After injection molding, the plastic body quickly cools and crystallizes and hardens.

If the copper nut is still at a high temperature, what will be the result? Smart you must have guessed it. The result is that the contact area between the copper nut and the plastic part will loosen or crack. Therefore, copper nuts are used in injection molding instead of steel nuts.

The shape of copper nuts used in injection molding is generally circular with various patterns pressed on them. The ones melted into the mold are generally cylindrical (as shown in the figure below). The copper nuts for hot or cold pressing have a certain taper or are equipped with barbs. As for why they are tapered or have barbs, smart you can guess.

Other types of copper nuts

  • Embedded nuts

Copper nuts made from various wire materials with patterns (usually leaded brass, such as H59, 3604, 3602). The embedded rolled copper nuts we commonly encounter are all processed by precision automatic lathes. The reference standard for embedded rolled copper nuts comes from the national standard GB/T809, but the technical parameters of various embedded nuts produced by our company exceed the relevant indicators of the national standard.

The main operation method of embedded nuts is injection molding. After heating, they are embedded into plastic parts or directly injection molded. If injection molding is used, the melting points of PA/NYLOY/PET are all above 200°C. After the embedded nut is melted into the plastic part, the temperature rises rapidly.

After injection molding, the plastic body quickly cools and crystallizes and hardens. If the embedded nut is still at a high temperature, it may cause the contact area between the copper nut and the plastic part to start loosening or cracking. Therefore, copper nuts are used in the injection molding of embedded nuts instead of carbon steel nuts.

The outer rolled patterns of embedded copper nuts are formed in two ways. One is to form the patterns on the copper raw material and then process it on the equipment. Generally, the pattern in this way is straight. The other is to directly roll the patterns on the copper material during the production process while tapping the threads.

This processing method can produce some non-standard size rolled copper nuts. The shape of the embedded copper nut patterns can be selected by the user, such as mesh patterns, figure-eight patterns, herringbone patterns, and various other rolled patterns.

  • Rolled copper nuts

Rolled copper nuts are mainly used in hardware springs, special-shaped springs, craft gift springs, battery spring sheets, spring antennas, key rings, phosphor bronze spring CNC automatic lathe turned parts (copper turned parts, iron turned parts, aluminum turned parts), hardware stamping parts, electronic hardware parts, iron shafts, single-flower shafts, multi-flower shafts, iron pins, non-standard screw rods and nuts, connecting parts, fasteners, wire forming (metal wire name cards, model aircraft landing gears, S hooks, R-type pins, triangular buckles, D-type buckles), and other hardware products. They belong to the copper nut series.

  • Injection molded copper nuts

Overview Injection-molded copper nuts can also be understood as embedded copper nuts or inlaid copper nuts. Currently, various types of injection-molded copper nuts have emerged in the market, each with different uses.

Principle of operation

The main purpose of copper inserts is to be injection-molded into some plastic parts, and after installation, an effective internal thread can be formed in the plastic part. The operation method is to heat the product and then embed it into the plastic part or directly use a mold for injection molding. Because brass has good thermal conductivity, heating and then pressing the copper insert into the plastic matrix can quickly heat the product and increase work efficiency.

The heated copper insert can also quickly transfer heat to the plastic part, softening the area around the plastic hole and allowing the product to be quickly pressed into the hole. If mold injection molding is used, after the copper insert is hot-injected into the plastic part, due to the embossing process on the outer diameter, a certain friction force and biting force are formed with the copper insert after molding, which can fix it inside and prevent it from falling off. Purpose

The products are widely used in: mobile phones, laptops, various plastic casings, communication, micro-motors, computers, electrical appliances, electronics, toys, clocks, lighting, motorcycles and other industries.

Types

Currently, the main types include: CNC computer-turned parts, mobile phone nuts, embossed nuts, hot-melt nuts, hot-pressed nuts, embedded nuts, ultrasonic nuts, injection-molded nuts, insert nuts, copper shafts, copper columns, copper sleeves, copper cups, precision shafts and non-standard screws and nuts, totaling over 20 categories and tens of thousands of specifications.

Product Materials

Mainly: environmentally friendly copper, C3604 copper, H59 copper

Other names and uses of copper nuts

Copper nuts, also known as embedded nuts or inlaid copper nuts or plastic embedded nuts, are further classified into hot-melt copper nuts, hot-pressed copper nuts, embedded copper nuts and ultrasonic copper nuts depending on the usage methods.

This product is widely used as an internal thread in mobile phone casings, notebook casings, injection-molded parts, plastic parts, etc. Generally, the outer circle is embossed to prevent sliding.

  • Embedded copper nuts

As the name suggests, embedded copper nuts are nuts made of copper material (usually leaded brass, such as H59, H62, etc.). The embedded copper nuts we commonly encounter are mainly hexagonal nuts or other types of embedded copper nuts that match bolts.

Why are embedded copper nuts used in daily production activities? Because embedded copper nuts have the advantages of being rust-resistant, corrosion-resistant, good heat conduction and strong electrical conductivity. They are generally used in environments that require rust prevention, high temperature, electrical conduction and heat conduction, such as faucets, valves, electrical switches, mechanical assemblies, etc.

Another main use of embedded copper nuts is injection molding. After heating, they are embedded into plastic parts or directly molded by injection molding. As mentioned earlier, brass has good thermal conductivity. If heated embedded copper nuts are used and then embedded, on the one hand, the embedded copper nuts can quickly heat up and increase work efficiency.

On the other hand, the heated embedded copper nuts can quickly transfer heat to the plastic parts, making the plastic holes around them soften and facilitating insertion into the holes. Then, what would be the effect if injection molding is used?

Standards for copper nuts

1. Nuts, also known as screw caps, are parts that are screwed together with bolts or screws to provide a tightening function. They are essential components in the production and manufacturing of machinery. There are many types of nuts.

The common ones we see include national standards, British standards, American standards, and Japanese standards. According to different materials, nuts can be classified into carbon steel, high-strength, stainless steel, and plastic steel, etc.

According to the product attributes and corresponding national standards, they are divided into common, non-standard, (old) national standards, new national standards, American standards, British standards, and German standards. Different sizes and thread pitches are classified into different specifications.

Generally, national standards and German standards are represented by M (for example, M8, M16), while American and British standards are represented by fractions or # (such as 8#, 10#, 1/4, 3/8).

2. Nuts are parts that tightly connect mechanical equipment. Through the internal threads, nuts and screws of the same specification can be connected together. For example, an M4-0.7 nut can only be paired with an M4-0.7 bolt (in nuts, M4 indicates that the inner diameter of the nut is approximately 4mm, and 0.7 indicates the distance between two threads is 0.7mm); the same applies to American products.

For example, a 1/4-20 nut can only be paired with a 1/4-20 bolt (1/4 indicates that the inner diameter of the nut is approximately 0.25 inches, and 20 indicates that there are 20 threads per inch).
